When should you start using anti-wrinkle cosmetics and is it worth reaching for the age-stamped ones?

Many women would like to magically stop time and not age. Unfortunately, this is not possible. However, we can delay the aging process of our skin and through proper anti-wrinkle care maintain its radiance and firmness for a long time.

Does age in the meter equal skin age? Not necessarily!

It might seem that at 20, 40 or 60 years old, our skin is also that old. Nothing could be further from the truth. Each skin is different, some age more slowly, others more quickly. It may turn out that at 30 years old, the skin is as damaged as if it was at least ten years older.

A significant impact on its condition has a genetic condition, but also our lifestyle, skin care, cosmetic and aesthetic medicine treatments and other activities. Using a solarium or excessive exposure to sunlight, poor diet, smoking, drinking alcohol and large amounts of coffee or energy drinks, as well as stress and little exercise – all this has a negative effect on the skin, especially if it lasts for a long time. In addition, there are also hormonal changes and the use of cosmetics ill-suited to the type and needs of the skin.

You need to be aware that changes in the skin begin to occur already before the age of 20, initially as mimic wrinkles on the forehead, in the outer corners of the eyes and mouth. With time, the furrows and folds become deeper, more visible and the skin loses its firmness. More discoloration and spots also appear.

Anti-wrinkle products are not able to stop the effects of passing time, but their regular use significantly improves the condition of the skin.

The first cream after the age of 20, but..

As we mentioned, the skin begins to age at an early age, although at first glance we may not even notice any changes. However, dermatologists agree that at this stage it is worth introducing at least some anti-aging care.

Note that anti-wrinkle cosmetics are used “against wrinkles” and not “for wrinkles”. So using them only after the age of 45 or 50 misses the point, because then we have to act on the hollows that have already appeared.

However, we should remember not to apply aggressive creams or other products that could irritate young skin right away. At the beginning, let us choose cosmetics with moisturizing effect (so as to prevent aging by drying), protecting against the sun and free radicals.

Then, between 30 and 35 years of age, we should reach for creams with substances stimulating cell regeneration. Products with collagen, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid and elastin and glycerine will prove useful. At an advanced age, wrinkle-flattening creams with stronger ingredients such as retinol, alpha-lipoic acid or caviar are recommended.

In anti-wrinkle care also antioxidants (vitamins C and E, niacinamide), peptides, coenzyme Q10 and natural oils such as jojoba, argan or rose oil will come in handy.

Before buying any cosmetics, it is worth to analyze their composition and check whether they actually have active ingredients that have a positive effect on our skin.

Is it worth to choose creams with age indication?

Very often on drugstore shelves you can find products with an age stamp. Manufacturers of skin care creams want to attract customers this way. They are aware of the fact that most consumers do not really know what their skin needs at a given moment of life and the 30+ or 50+ mark may make it easier for them to choose the right product. Rarely do ladies check the composition of the cream and without much hesitation they reach for the one that is appropriate for their age. Is it a right move? We asked an expert for her opinion

It is a marketing trick often used by cream producers. The daily care cream should be chosen individually to the needs of a given skin, and not according to the number of years. There are many skin types, including those with various problems, therefore not every cream labeled, for example, +30 will be suitable for people in this age range. The number on a cream package suggesting the age should in no case be an indicator when choosing a cream for skin care

Anti-wrinkle care – cream is not everything!

What is important, proper anti-wrinkle care does not include only applying cream twice a day. It is necessary to use additional filters to protect against harmful UV rays (not only in spring and summer, but throughout the year), which cause the skin to age much faster.

We must also not forget about careful makeup removal before bedtime, so that the skin can properly regenerate

And that is not all. It is also important to act from the inside, that is, to take care of proper hydration of the body and a balanced diet, rich in vitamins and good fats.
