Squats – what muscle parts do they work on?

Performing squats is an excellent exercise. It activates the muscles of the buttocks and thighs. Performed properly, it is able to significantly improve the appearance of these body parts. It can strengthen your legs and give an attractive shape to your buttocks. Squats are also an exercise that can be brilliantly modified and varied. You can add rubber bands or weights to it to make the resistance greater. In addition, you can do them more dynamically or statically. But do squats help with weight loss?

The essence of weight loss is negative energy balance

Let’s start with the fact that in order to lose excess weight, it is necessary to maintain a caloric deficit. This means that your body must burn more calories than it will take in with food. This is an indisputable principle, the understanding of which can make weight loss simpler. Knowing it, you know that you don’t have to limit yourself to eating only vegetables and yogurt in your diet. You can eat anything you feel like, but you need to keep an eye on your energy balance “on the downside.” 

You need to know that physical activity also counts in weight loss. It is it that allows you to burn extra calories. It’s especially important if you like to eat a lot and don’t want to change that during fat reduction. Think then about starting high-intensity workouts, which not only burn calories, but there is a chance that they will have a positive effect on your metabolism. Squats are also a physical activity, so as much as possible they can help you lose weight!

Will you lose weight doing squats alone?

It is accepted that the effects of weight loss depend 70 percent on diet, and only 30 percent goes to training. The percentage result is not necessarily perfect, but it is agreed – diet is the most important. That’s because it’s much easier to wait for weight loss results by reducing the number of calories you eat per day than trying to burn off those already delivered with food.

Remember that every body is different, so this is an individual issue. If you eat exactly enough calories to maintain your weight and start going to the gym or running, you will lose weight. It will probably take a long time, but you should get the desired effect. A much faster and healthier way, however, will be to introduce a healthy diet combined with a caloric deficit and physical activity.

Workouts significantly help with weight loss. They burn calories and also speed up metabolism and help firm the skin and strengthen muscles. A very big advantage is that workouts release endorphins, the so-called happiness hormones. This makes weight loss much less tiring.

The squats engage the muscles, but if you want to burn calories, let them be an addition to the workout, not its basis. That’s what cardio exercises should be.
