What are the types of braces?

There are two basic types of braces:

  • Fixed braces – are constructed of rings, arches and brackets that are attached to the teeth. We cannot remove it on our own. In this case, oral care is more complicated. 
  • Removable braces – are braces that you can remove at any time. Its effectiveness depends on the regularity of its wearing.

Regardless of the type of braces, its form promotes the development of caries. For this reason, it is very important to maintain proper hygiene while wearing it.

How to take care of oral hygiene while wearing braces?

Use the right toothbrush

While wearing braces, it is best to get orthodontic toothbrushes. ch shape resembles the letter V. These toothbrushes make brushing your teeth very easy. They have shorter bristles. You can also use sonic or oscillating toothbrushes with a special tip. If you have trouble reaching any area – use a single-bristle toothbrush. 

Orthodontic wax

When you wear fixed braces, orthodontic wax can help you a lot. He protects the sharp parts of the braces accordingly, thus protecting your mouth. This is very important at the very beginning of wearing braces. This is when the risk of irritation is greatest. For this reason, go for a special orthodontic wax immediately after getting braces. 

Special toothpastes

You should use a special toothpaste while wearing braces. It has the right consistency and helps get rid of unwanted discomforts associated with wearing braces. Most pastes have substances that are much better at protecting your teeth from plaque build-up and decay. 

Why wear braces?

The decision to wear braces is not an easy one. This is because it involves a lot of cost and pain. However, it is worth the decision. Misaligned teeth and malocclusion aggravate the risk of tooth decay and oral diseases. They also often cause speech therapy problems. What’s more, such problems can significantly affect psyche and self-confidence. It’s a decision worth making, because after the difficult period of getting braces, it only gets better, and the time spent wearing them is worth seeing the results afterwards.
