Menopause is a very difficult time in a woman’s life. Storming hormones, changes in the body, and often extra kilograms. How to cope with it?

According to the definition of the World Health Organization, menopause is the day on which a woman had her last menstrual period (the last one due to physiological reasons and not, for example, as a result of removing the ovaries or the uterus). However, it is also known as what happens to a woman before and after she stops menstruating (this is actually premenopause). This is undoubtedly a very difficult time for a woman, whose body is undergoing many changes. Is there any way to prepare for them and what can be done to pass through them as smoothly as possible?

Menopause – when to expect it?

Menopause, which is also called menopause or menopause, usually occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55. However, there are exceptions and even women under 40 stop menstruating. The ovaries stop producing hormones and monthly bleeding stops (it does not appear for at least 12 months).

Symptoms of menopause

Usually, before menstruation stops, a number of symptoms appear, which, there is no denying – they can significantly impede daily functioning. As a result of hormonal changes, bleeding may be irregular – this is the most common sign of menopause. Additionally, they may look slightly different than usual – they are shorter or longer, more or less abundant. Another quite common symptom is hot flashes, which appear unexpectedly, even when there are no high temperatures outside the window

What else can a woman expect before the bleeding stops completely? Certainly mood swings. People around menopausal women are often surprised by their “moods” and incomprehensible behavior. And irritability and nervousness in the case of menopause is very common.

Sleep disorders, heart palpitations, dry skin, back, joint or knee pain, concentration problems, incontinence and vaginal dryness are also common. It is also worth knowing that during menopause women more often struggle with various infections of the bladder, vagina or vulva. Another noticeable problem is weight. Menopause is usually associated with excess weight, which is difficult to get rid of. Why does this happen? It is associated with a decrease in the level of the hormone – estrogen. And it is it that enables us to control our body weight.

How to cope with menopause?

What can be done to make menopause less troublesome? And is it at all possible? Of course it is, and preparation will certainly not hurt. First of all, it is worth taking care of a healthy diet. Meals should be less fatty and processed. It is worth to have more fruits and vegetables on the plate. Products with a large amount of fiber are also recommended. You should also give up sweets and stimulants. Thanks to dietary changes it will be easier to maintain weight, and as we know, weight gain is one of the biggest and most common problems during menopause

The key is also physical activity, which will improve the condition and make the skin stay firmer for longer. Besides, sport, or even a long walk, will make it easier to fall asleep and will allow you to relax. Also stress is not recommended, but it is often difficult to avoid it. So perhaps it is worth thinking about a weekend out of town, in the SPA, or yoga?

When urinary incontinence occurs, Kegel muscle exercises can help – you should for a few minutes clench and relax your perineum, as if you wanted to urinate and hold back urine. After a few weeks there should be an improvement. For your own psychological comfort, it is also a good idea to invest in sanitary pads or pads that absorb urine and mask any odor. This will provide psychological comfort, and the woman need not worry that her underwear will be wet

When you notice the first symptoms indicating menopause – you should go to the doctor. If the symptoms are very troublesome, then he may decide to take hormonal treatment
